Prof. Dr. Antony Joseph Raj has 24 years of administrative, teaching & research experience and he has the highest qualification of Ph.D. & Qualified in NET (National Eligibility Test) of ASRB of ICAR. Prof. Dr. Antony J. Raj has good experience in University Administration in the capacity of Pro-Vice Chancellor, Director (Internal Quality Assurance and Assessment-IQAA) and Dean of College. He is presently working in the academic position of full Professor rank and he has also been appointed in administrative posts as Director (Internal Quality Assessment and Assurance); Dean of College of Forestry & Head, Department of Silviculture and Agroforestry of Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS), Prayagraj, India.

 

As the Director (Internal Quality Assurance and Assessment-IQAA) of University, presently He is leading as Chairman of University Quality Audit Committee which monitors the quality of all the Directorates, Divisions, Institutes/Colleges in the University. He is serving the role as Nodal Officer for Accreditation of all the Departments, Colleges, Institutes and Programmes of University by International and National Accreditation Agencies. He is responsible for developing modules for ensuring quality of administration, finance, education, research, training, extension, etc. in the University as per the norms and benchmarks of Government of India & State Government and International Standards. As Dean of College, He is currently coordinating administrative decisions in the College by providing leadership for Associate Dean, Heads of the Departments and Staff Members within the College. 

 

He has guided many M.Sc. and Ph.D. students for their thesis research work and many B.Sc. students for project work. His research specializations are Forestry, Agroforestry, Silviculture, Carbon Science, Environmental Science, Ecology and Biodiversity, Plantation Forestry, Climate Change Studies, Carbon Sequestration, Carbon Management, Carbon Measurement and Monitoring, Land Resources Management, Dryland Management, Natural Resources Management. He has acquired progressive knowledge and innovative skills after visiting the countries Germany, New Zealand, Malaysia, Iran and Ethiopia for training, job, participation in International conferences and presenting research papers. Through his high calibre research potential, he has 102 publications (45 Journal Research Papers; 2 books; 19 Book Chapters; 11 Instructional and Training Manuals; 25 Research Papers in International and National Conferences) to his credit. Prof. Dr. Antony J. Raj has administrative experience previously in the capacity of "Associate Dean of College " and “Research Coordinator of College” from Allahabad Agriculture University for more than eight years during 2002 to 2010. He has implemented 8 externally funded research projects.

 

Prof. Dr. Antony J. Raj went to abroad and joined in the Department of Land Resources Management and Environmental Protection (LaRMEP) of Mekelle University in the year 2010 as Associate Professor. He was later promoted to Professor and served in the abroad University from 2010 to 2019. He was involved in teaching post graduate courses and supervising thesis research works/dissertations/ seminars/ project works for M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. He prepared the Growth and Transformation Plan for Department of LaRMEP and submitted a proposal for expanding and upgrading the Department of LaRMEP into full-fledged School of LaRMEP with 6 new Departments which was widely discussed in the Department Council, College Council and University meetings. He acted as a chairman in many Ph.D. & M.Sc. Thesis Defense Meetings and Research Review Meetings of Mekelle University.

 

Prof. Dr. Antony J. Raj has received many awards and distinctions such as Eminent Scientist Award, Young Scientist Award, Eminent Forestry Scientist Award, Best Paper Presentation Award, Award for Outstanding Contribution to Climate Science and Environmental Sustainability etc. Prof. Dr. Antony J. Raj has good experience in Course Curriculum Development & Curriculum Review for B.Sc., M.Sc. & Ph.D. programmes, Designing Instructional Materials and Training Materials on Forestry, Agroforestry and Environmental Science Subjects. He has good experience and skills in Project Proposal Preparation, Project Implementation, Scientific Oral Presentations, Writing, Editing and Publishing Scientific Documents, Scripts, Reports, Research Papers, Proceedings.
