Volunteer (29 January - 22 February 2001): Served as a Volunteer Team Leader for the Gujarat earthquake relief works.
 

EFICOR, New Delhi, India:-

Consultant (19 March to October 2001): Conducted a feasibility study for watershed program in Bolangir, Orissa, carryied out a major watershed development programme with the active participation of Farmer Beneficiary Associations in Bolangir district in Western Orissa to increase and stabilize under the food for work drought relief program, conducted seminars and presented papers.
 

European Commission, New Delhi, India:-

Full Time Local TA Coordinator and Agronomist, Technical Assistance (TA) Team, Kerala Minor Irrigation Project (September 1993 to December 2000):
-Identified 650 watershed based minor irrigation schemes, set up Beneficiary Farmer Associations and supervised construction of 250 viable minor irrigation schemes in all districts of Kerala State to irrigate about 9,000 ha for the EU funded (14 million ECU) project.
- Recruited and taught and trained the required staff.
-Recommended alternative cropping patterns and agronomic packages to farmers for raising fruits and vegetables that can grow under various agro-climatic situations and identified extension requirements and conducted crop demonstrations on various crops under improved management practices.
- Coordinated active participation of the Farmers Associations for testing innovative ideas for increasing efficiency of crop production, packing, transport and marketing.
- Carried out trainings for Senior and middle level Officers of the Agriculture and Irrigation Departments of Kerala State.
- Set-up 241 Water Users’ Associations and provided training in management.
- Carried out about 70 Agricultural Demonstrations with farmers’ participation on sustainable production, irrigation of paddy, vegetables, fruits and coconuts throughout Kerala State.
- Conducted integrated river basin development, drainage and land reclamation studies in the Bhavani River basin in Attappady, Chandragiri River basin and other watershed areas in Kerala together with other expatriate and local members of various disciplines of the Technical Assistance Team.
- Co-ordinated and liaised between the Project Management Unit and Kerala State Departments of Irrigation, Agriculture and Soil conservation, Kerala Horticulture Development Project (KHDP Presently VFPCK), Kerala Agricultural University, State Planning Board, Centre for Water Resources Development and Management and several other similar organizations.
 

ICAR/World Bank/ ENCAP/IFPRI:-

Consultant Scientist (Natural Resource Management) (1996-1998):
Developed methodology and recruited, trained and supervised several investigators to evaluate farmers’ participation, farmers’ adoption, success and sustainability of recommended soil and water conservation structures and crop management components in several watershed development projects in 87 villages, promoted by various watershed development agencies in the semi-arid tropical regions of Maharashtra,Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Several reports and papers are published based on the results of this study.
 

Winrock International:-

Consultant Scientist (Natural Resource Management) (June -September 1993):
Conducted land survey to evaluate types and extent of soil erosion, land use, productivity and soil conservation measures adopted by farmers in certain districts of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan for a socio-economic evaluation study prepared report, conducted seminars and conferences.


Synthite Industrial Chemicals Ltd: General Manager Agricultural Projects (June 1992 - May 1993);

Consultant (to date): Established marigold, Jasmine and spices cultivation in more than 2000 acres in the state of Tamilnadu with farmer participation for the production of Beta Carotene for export to US and European countries and organised Beneficiary Farmers’ Associations. Visited the sandalwood growing zones of South India and conducted a feasibility study for raising sandalwood plantations in the farmers’ fields, processing and extraction of sandalwood oil in association with the Sandalwood Research Institute in Karnataka State, South India for export.


International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT):-

Senior Research Associate,Resource Management Unit (September 1984 to May 1992):
- Carried out research on Soil and Water Management Options suitable for the Semi-Arid Tropics in collaboration with scientists from Queensland Department of Primary Industries (QDPI).
- Conducted watershed management studies and developed package of practices for field crops, fruits and vegetables suitable for the Semi-Arid Tropics in certain watersheds in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh in Collaboration with PKV Agricultural University in Maharashtra and the Central Research Institute for Dry land Agriculture (CRIDA) and ICAR and formed effective Beneficiary Farmers’ Associations.
- Conducted evaluation studies on different components of land and water management practices developed and recommended by ICRISAT adopted in several watersheds in Karnataka state in collaboration with Scientists from the Japanese International Comparative Agency (JICA).
-Taught and trained international and Indian students, in service trainees and farmers.

Command Area Development Authority (CADA), Govt of Kerala:-

Assistant Soil Survey Officer/Cartographer (1980 - September 1984): Conducted soil survey in the command areas of several Irrigation Projects of Kerala State and prepared soil maps, land capability maps, land use maps and land irrigability maps. Developed bylaws for forming Beneficiary Farmers’ Associations for Participatory command area development and irrigation management for major irrigation projects in Kerala. Trained beneficiary farmers.


Besides these, I have been regularly conducting seminars in SHIATS, Kerala Agricultural University and
Cochin University of Science and; Technology, Kochi, Kerala on various topics.

I am also taking up consultancies
and advisories with IWMRI, Jain Irrigation Maharashtra, Pandita Ramabai Mukti Mission, Pune, ESAF,
projects in India etc.
I have also helped to develop MoUs with ICRISAT, Jain Irrigation and Agricultural Research Organisation,
