OVERVIEW

Mission and Vision of Directorate of IPC:
Directorate of Innovation, Projects & Consultancy (IPC) caters to the protection of valuable intellectual property (IP/ IP rights) generated by research and development studies across various institutes/schools/colleges/; formulation of policies for developing guidelines related to IPR, capitalizing research-based innovations through start-ups, spin-offs, licensing and other suitable means; promoting consultancy and contract research by providing know-how, expertise and human resources to external organizations at national and international level; establishing and nurturing start-ups through incubation centre and collaborating with industries.


Responsibilities of IPC:

1) Awareness Workshops and training programmes on various policies of Science and Technology, IPR, Entrepreneurship and related matters with:
• MSME
• CIMCO
• NSIC
• DST
• And other agencies
2) IPR Docketing procedures for:-
• IP Disclosures
• IP Assessment
• IP filing in India and abroad
• IP prosecution and maintenance
• Legal issues related to IPR
3) Start-ups/ Entrepreneurship

1. Developing mechanisms for procuring benefits from university’s existing IP.

  • Establishing and nurturing:-
  • Spin-off companies around intellectual property of the university;
  • Establishing a standard deal between the university and the company in terms of providing exclusive or limited license, financial issues, providing infrastructure, equipment, know-how; conditions for termination of contracts;
  • Standardization of royalties to the faculty on the net sales done or any upfront cash payment;
  • Establishing and nurturing
  • spin-in companies in the incubation centre;
  • establishing the contract details covering the use of university infrastructure, equipment’s with a fees charged; taxation; royalties to the faculty on the net sales done or any upfront cash payment

2.Setting in motion companies, centred around the various scientific disciplines available at the university, establishing the complete organizational structure;

3. Facilitating optimal utilization of university’s IP for societal welfare and benefit.

4) Consultancy
  • Encouraging staff to undertake consultancy
  • Formularizing the consultancy procedures
  • Coordinating with the client organization and the consultant
  • Regulating the distribution of the consultancy amount
  • Contract Research with industry

5) Industrial Academia Relations
  • Focusing on increased collaborations with Industry for transferring technology,
  • Developing and formularizing licensing contracts for effective use of IP to collaborate for mutual benefit.
  • Developing standards and formats for Memorandum of Understanding/Memorandum of Association; establishing business proposals encompassing financial factors among others for entering into contracts with the industries.
6) Formulation of Policies
  • Fostering IP Policy for the university covering all the aspects related to IP
  • Incubation and Start-up policy for staff and students to promote start-ups, facilitating technology transfer and licensing system; developing incubation centres,
  • Formularizing the consultancies policy
7) Liasoning with Government organization related to Entrepreneurship
  • Focusing on regulations and requirements for projects/policies coming out of DBT, DST, ICAR, state and central government, international grants, and other agencies with a focus on SME-related grants,
  • Scanning the research proposals for IPR benefits
8) Grant Writing 
  • Focusing on various grants at national and international level to carry out an effective research in various fields.


Constitution of the Directorate of IPC:
Keeping the above objectives in mind, Directorate of Innovation, Projects and Consultancy (IPC) was established in year 2014. It comprises of the following members:-

Entrepreneurs and Innovators Club (EpIC):
EpIC, initiated by Directorate of IPC in March 2017, intends to establish innovative environment in the university. As students form the backbone of the university, Directorate of IPC aims to promote the innovative culture among GenNext by fostering in them the inbuilt urge to innovate.
The students selected in the EpIC will work in coordination with Directorate of IPC to stimulate the culture of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the University.

Prospective role of EpIC will be:-
• To foster the innovation culture among students by organizing competitions like debates, posters, awards for best innovations, advertisement making, quiz competitions, just a minute to name a few.
• To nourish and polish student’s scientific intellect in order to build their scientific temperament into a practical platform.
• To organize entrepreneurship related activities by providing a useful platform for bringing their ideas into reality.
• To publish newsletter bi-monthly containing various articles and news of innovation and entrepreneurship on-going in the university as well as elsewhere.
• To work in co-ordination with Directorate of IPC for organizing various programme and competition.
• To organize guest lectures, TV & Radio talks, Seminars, etc. for promoting growth of S&T based entrepreneurship.
• To arrange visits to industries for prospective entrepreneurs.
• To extend necessary guidance and escort services to the trainees in obtaining approval and execution of their projects.
• To spread the awareness about Intellectual Property and it’s importance in the changing competitive scenario.

Members of EpIC:
1. The permanent advisors will be: Director IPC; Nodal Officer (Entrepreneurship Development Cell); Secretary, IPC; Science Policy Officer, IP Development Officer and Business Development Officer.
2. Students selected from various departments and schools.
• Students will be made to fill in the Registration Form.
• Each student will be required to sign a declaration stating that they are associating with EpIC voluntary. In case of any misconduct their membership will be terminated with immediate effect and the appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.
• The membership will be for a period of one academic year and will be renewed or revised.
• Members will be required to report to Officers of Directorate of IPC, once in a week about the progress of the on-going task.
• No fees will be charged from the members.
3. Advisors from Teaching faculty and Coordinators will be selected for any programme or competition organized depending on the subject area or the area of interest.



The specific roles of the team members are:-

  • To liaison with funding and sponsoring agencies for long term national and international projects and cooperation
  • To support Director Research on policy matters related to research at the university 
2) Secretary
  • Filing, compiling, recording and reporting directorate matters and doing correspondence internally and externally in English and Hindi as needed.
    Communicating with government, and other agencies.
  • Coordinating with the science policy officer, IP development officer and business development officer on matters related to directorate
  • Disseminating and receive information from other directorates as directed.
3) Science Policy Officer
  • Evaluation, Assessment and , Reporting to the Directorate IPC on all rules, regulations and requirements for projects/policies coming out of DBT, DST, ICAR, state and central government, international grants, etc. with a focus on SME-related grants, funding, subsidies, contract research, collaborations, etc.
  • Communication with relevant authorities of state and central government for directions on policy for relevant science themes and fields as well as EU and international policies potentially beneficial to SHUATS.
  • Dissemination of information to the school coordinators.
  • Preparation of strategies for research projects based on innovation.
  • Coordination of contract research from the university.
  • Developing policies of the directorate and university towards innovation for internal and external execution.
  • Promoting policies and preparing position papers from the university and summarizing policies from the government.
  • Assessing consultancy proposals, grants, possible funding opportunities and liaison with relevant stakeholders and government agencies.
4) IP Development Officer
  • Collecting research data from the coordinators of different schools with the focus on identifying potential intellectual property generated.
  • Developing IP Related procedure for the university
  • Consultation with the faculty members for identifying the patentability aspects of the invention
  • Assessing, evaluating, consulting and investigating IP development in liaison with IP lawyers
  • Assessing the Potential commercial valuation of the innovations for business development.
  • Assessing the potentials of research innovations coming out of SHUATS and or through collaborations and consultancy, and prioritizing the potentials accordingly for the development of intellectual property.
  • Developing IP Policy in coordination with the science policy officer.
    Management of the IP.
  • Coordination of workshops and training programmes on IP development within the University for disseminating information about IP and raise awareness.

5) Business Development Officer
  • Assessing the business feasibility of potential IP from SHUATS
  • Evaluating market potential of the newly generated and existing IP
  • Developing business plan for the potential spin off company or business opportunity
  • Liaisoning with potential investors including venture capitalist, business angels and funding partners and negotiating on potential term sheets.
  • Working on the due diligence of potential business opportunities.
  • Preparing marketing strategies for university innovations.
  • Investigating potential business opportunities from consultancy projects and collaborations from the university and developing strategies accordingly.
6) 50 Coordinators (IPC coordinators, schools coordinators and departmental coordinators)
  • Coordination with the IPC staff for the flow of information related to policy, IP, potential business, projects and consultancy possibilities from respective schools and departments
  • Facilitating the flow of various innovations carried out on respective schools and departments
  • Maintaining smooth flow of information between the officers of IPC and other faculty members in their respective departments.
  • Promote and make aware of research innovation development and IP in the departments
  • Assist IPC staff in various projects related to their schools/departments
    Encourage grant-writing in the departments based around research innovations
7) Nodal Officer - Entrepreneurship Cell
  • Facilitating the development of incubation facilities in the university around agricultural-based products and innovations.
  • Encouraging start-ups in the university based around agricultural projects
  • Coordinate Experiential Learning Programs (ELPs) across the university
  • Correspond with the State Government regarding entrepreneurship skill development at the university
  • Organize and sensitize staff and students on entrepreneurship development and organize workshops around them
  • Write proposals to the State Government
  • Correspond and consult with the IPC resource person as mandated by the State Government
  • Develop activities and training on entrepreneurship among staff and students around agricultural-based innovations.
