International Education & Training

Prof. (Dr.) C. John Wesley

B.Tech, M.Tech, Ph.D;

Director (International Education & Training)

OVERVIEW

Globalization is the context of economic and academic trends that are part of the 21st century reality. Internationalization of education is the process of integrating an international, inter-cultural and/or global dimension in the goals, functions (teaching/learning, research, services) and delivery of higher education. Internationalization includes the policies and practices undertaken by academic systems and institutions—and even individuals—to cope with the global academic environment. The motivation for internationalization includes commercial advantage, knowledge and language acquisition, enhancing the curriculum with international content, and many others. Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology And Sciences has inculcated an educational vision, able to provide the global society with education that meets current needs and that can respond efficiently to contemporary demands and challenges, which are characterized by globalization, interdependence, and multiculturalism. Specific initiatives such as, cross-border collaborative arrangements, programs for international students, and others have been put into place as part of internationalization. The total strength of international students pursuing various diploma, degree and doctoral programmes at SHUATS has increased to over 600 from a few students in the past few years.

To further strengthen globalization and internationalization of the University, SHUATS has collaborated with numerous international institutions and organisations. The main objectives of these collaborations encompass the exchange of scientific knowledge, long term staff and student exchange, holding joint academic events such as seminars/workshops, conferences, etc.

High-Level Political Summit: Equity in Action – Driving Progress in Cancer Care

High-Level Political Summit
In order to expand the horizons of education and overlook the political boundaries and to provide a platform for global development, the University has signed the MOU with the following foreign universities / organizations:

The Equity in Action: Driving Progress in Cancer Care summit, a two-day high-level political event, was jointly organized by the International Cancer Patient Coalition (ICPC) and Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS), Prayagraj. This summit served as a wake-up call for global political leaders, urging them to confront the pressing challenges in cancer care.

The event highlighted the crucial need for collaboration among policymakers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and other key stakeholders to ensure equitable cancer care. Given the significant global health threat posed by cancer, the discussions and resolutions at the summit paved the way for meaningful reforms aimed at enhancing accessibility, lowering treatment costs, and strengthening healthcare systems worldwide.

With renowned experts leading the technical sessions, the summit combined scientific knowledge with a strong sense of social responsibility. Key discussions revolved around innovative approaches to addressing the global cancer burden, including new funding mechanisms, advanced biobanks, trustworthy AI in healthcare, and the reinforcement of national healthcare systems.

A major focal point of the summit was capacity-building within cancer care infrastructure. Experts called for greater international collaboration and investment to ensure fair access to cancer treatment, especially in low- and middle-income countries. The summit concluded with a collective call for unified action, public awareness, and continued innovation, reaffirming the global commitment to improving cancer care and achieving long-term cancer control goals.
